Earn an Electrical Technology AAS and gain valuable work experience.

Upon completion of the program, you will have earned an Electrical Technology/Industry Defined Associate in Applied Science degree.

Students will be enrolled in online general study courses for the initial summer and fall semesters while participating in on-the-job training with the sponsoring mill.


Upon your arrival in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, you will participate in on-the-job training while taking technical concentration courses at Shelton State Community College, a nationally accredited community college.

On-the-job training will be held in Tuscaloosa and at your sponsor mill during semester and holiday breaks.


With our experienced Nucor teammates providing hands-on training, you will have a chance to learn from the best in the business!

Receive hourly pay for class time and on-the-job training.


You will be paid $12 per hour once you start at your sponsor mill.


Upon arrival in Tuscaloosa for the beginning of your initial spring semester, the pay will increase to $14 per hour for the remainder of the first academic year.

Based on work and academic performance, your hourly rate could increase to $16 per hour for year two, which begins in the second fall semester.


Paid tuition, books, housing and travel expenses are provided while enrolled in the program.

All tuition and textbook costs will be paid by Nucor each semester as long as you meet the academic requirements of the program.


Paid housing is available upon your arrival in Tuscaloosa.

Nucor will reimburse expenses to and from Tuscaloosa for business-related travel as well as travel home at semester and holiday breaks.

All candidates who wish to apply must be 18 years of age by September 1 of the entering year.

Please provide a high school transcript (2.75 GPA preferred) and your SAT or ACT score. Preferred candidates will have taken four of the following high school courses:

  • Algebra I

  • Algebra II

  • Computer Science

  • Chemistry

  • Technology Elective

  • Geometry

  • Mechanical/Drawing

  • Advanced Mathematics

  • Physics
